How to install it and why macOS shows a warning

Not sleeping isn’t enough

The classic keep-awake apps do exactly that, and that’s where their job ends. Your screen stays on, but Slack and Teams still mark you away.

The reason: they don’t check whether the machine is awake, they check how long you have been idle. Those are two different things, and KeepGreen handles both — with a separate switch for each, in case you only want one.

What sets it apart

Never in the way

It never moves your cursor or interrupts what you’re doing. You won’t notice it running.

Turns itself off

From 15 minutes to 8 hours, or indefinite. When the time is up it stops, no need to remember.

Genuinely light

A single process and virtually no CPU at idle. Your battery won’t notice.

Platforms

Available for Mac. Windows and Linux are on the way — they’re separate native apps, not one program repackaged, and that takes time.

Installing on Mac

  1. Open the downloaded file and drag KeepGreen to Applications.
  2. The first time, macOS will say it can’t verify the app. Go to System Settings → Privacy & Security, scroll to the note about KeepGreen and click Open Anyway.
  3. Turn on “Simulate activity” and grant the Accessibility permission when asked. That’s what lets KeepGreen tell the system you’re still there.

KeepGreen isn’t notarized by Apple, hence step two. The Control-click → Open shortcut stopped working in macOS 15. For the same reason, every update will ask you to grant the permission again.

You can verify the file is the original with shasum -a 256 KeepGreen.dmg and compare it against:
